General Function:
The Swim Instructor serves members though Swimming sessions. S/he builds relationships with members and program participants through effective and positive customer service while providing a safe instructional environment.
Essential duties:
- Engages all members/participants in a professional and courteous manner:
- Greet/say hello and goodbye to all participants in the aquatics area and learn members names and call them by their names
- Listen and be accessible to all members for questions and comments
- Follow-up as needed
- Engages members on new classes, new changes, etc.
- Maintains proper functioning/cleanliness and/or report malfunctioning of Water area/equipment to supervisor
- Redirects members on cell phones to front lobby
- Adheres and incorporate the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and educates members about the YMCA mission and goals
- Complies with all Somerset Hills YMCA Policies and Procedures
- Attends trainings, seminars and meetings as required
Other duties:
- Arrives to work five (5) minutes before shift starts
- Wear appropriate and professional uniform/attire
- All other duties as assigned
Required knowledge/experience:
- Has 1+ experience in teaching Swim Lessons
- Proven track-record in attracting and retaining new clients/participants
Required education/certifications:
- HS diploma or equivalent
- YSL and/or WSI certification
- Current Blood borne Pathogens certification
- SH YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Training within 30 days of hire
- SH YMCA New Staff Orientation Training within 90 days of hire
