Night Nurse Supervisor, RN

" Night Supervisor Position 12 hour shifts, 7-7.

The Nurse Supervisor provides supervision of all patient care areas I the hospital. The Registered Nurse Supervisor is required to have a working knowledge of hospital and nursing policies and procedures and the ability to apply independent judgement in their interpretation. The Registered Nurse Supervisor duties include the provision of managerial and clinical links between the Director of Nursing and/or Nurse manager and department direction in their absence. The Registered Nurse Supervisor promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization. The Registered Nurse Supervisor also meets the requirements and essential functions of the Registered Nurse as indicated below:

Essential Functions:

\t * Assesses patient care requirements on each unit by making rounds throughout all areas of the hospital (according to departmental need/activity)
\t * Ensure the departmental staffing plans are implemented appropriately.
\t * Serve as a resource to staff for solving clinical problems.
\t * Assist staff to efficiently utilize staffing and other resources to meet patient care requirements and other professional responsibilities.
\t * Provide for immediate follow-up, documentation and communication of incidents to the appropriate manager and director.
\t * Respond to emergency situations and assists as necessary.
\t * Act as a resource in identifying and/or solving administrative/operational problems.
\t * Contact representatives of departments not presently in the hospital for assistance with problem solving, timely and appropriately.
\t * Act as a resource, interpret and ensure adherence to hospital and nursing philosophy, policies and procedures.
\t * Report to the administrator-on-call or DON/Nurse Manager any significant incidents and problems such as unusual patient/family problems or concerns, physician concerns, major damage or utility outages, security problems, public relations or media events, fire, disaster, matters of legal importance, calls received from regulatory bodies, or safety issues.
\t * Provide on-going timely feedback, verbal and written, to staff on performance in collaboration with DON/Nurse Manager. Assist with providing information necessary for conducting nursing personnel performance evaluations.
\t * Identify and communicate staff needs for continuing education to the DON/Nurse Manager.
\t * Provide education, remediation, and assessment of skills competencies as directed by the DON/Nurse Manager.
\t * Monitor documentation for adherence to rules and regulations.
\t * Ensure environment of care requirements are met (ie: quality logs, infection control practices, etc)
\t * Utilizes the nursing process: assessing, planning, and formulating nursing interventions directed towards development of an individualized plan of care and treatment modalities.
\t * Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the client to include discharge planning; prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes; evaluates the effectiveness of interventions in relation to expected outcomes; conducts ongoing assessment of clients from admission to discharge; initiates medical/psychiatric crisis intervention to stabilize and ensure the well-being of the patient's conditions.
\t * Provides individual patient teaching on all identified learning needs; facilitates in Family/Significant other education.
\t * Demonstrates knowledge of psychiatric disorders and appropriate nursing interventions; implements nursing interventions identified in the plan of care that is individualized to the patient needs. Applies appropriate interventions to progress the patient towards wellness and addresses maintenance of wellness.
\t * Provides structure and maintains a therapeutic milieu in collaboration with the patient and other health care providers.
\t * Administers medications as prescribed safely; provides education on prescribed medications; recognizes signs and symptoms of adverse drug reactions.
\t * Reviews, revises, and updates medical records within facility guidelines and timeframes. Transcribes and implements physician's orders according to facility policy; documents care, progress, response to intervention in medical record in an accurate, thorough and concise manner.
\t * Follows up on client care responsibilities, communicates incomplete assignments, and current client needs to staff to assure continuity of care.
\t * Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
