The Health AI org is looking for an SDE to join AWS HealthLake (AHL). AHL is a HIPAA eligible service for clinical data ingestion, storage and analysis utilizing the Healthcare Interoperability FHIR specification. The AHL Maelstrom team owns FHIR Search and Analytics capabilities. The team builds and operates a FHIR Search service that indexes FHIR resources into Open Search domains and enables complex, standards based searches, an analytics transform ETL pipeline that streams FHIR data into AWS analytics platforms and Control Plane workflows to provision and manage AWS infrastructure.
Key job responsibilities
A SDE2 in AHL is able to independently contribute towards feature development and Ops excellence. Design, build and operate scalable, reliable and secure big data solutions using technologies like Glue, Spark and MapReduce to power the FHIR Search and Analytics capabilities of AWS HealthLake
Explore opportunities to leverage generative AI models to solve complex search and analytics problems within HealthLake
Contribute to the overall architecture and design of the AHL platform to ensure it is powerful yet simple for end customers to use, with an eye towards making solutions extensible to other AWS services
Troubleshoot and resolve complex operational issues as the service sees growing customer demand and onboarding
Collaborate cross-functionally with other teams within the Health AI org to deliver on the overall mission and vision

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
