A Brief Overview This RN position is 36 hours 3- 12 hour shifts- can be flexible to accommodate 8 hour shifts. Shifts are 7a-7p or 10a-10p. No overnights. It is every 4th weekend- no holidays. BSN and 2 years previous Nursing expereince is required . 1 year psyc / Behavioral Health required- peds preferred. This RN position is a leadership role. In the position the RN acts as a consultant- rounding throughout Main hospital for Behavioral Health patients. This RN is also responsible for creating education presentations, teaching in charge nurse class and central nursing orientation etc. Must be confident in psychiatric nursing skills to educate bedside RN's. Time management is key to juggling patient/bedside consulting and projects The Behavioral Health Resource Nurse Expert is an expert practitioner level of professional nurse and works in accordance with, and guided by, the CHOP Nursing Professional Practice Model. The nurse at this level demonstrates expertise in caring for patients with multiple and complex behavioral health problems and leads the advancement of safe, quality clinical practice and development of advanced clinical skills in others. The Behavioral Health Resource Nurse Expert adheres to the organizational and nursing department mission, vision, and values. S/he practices in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics; the ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice; practice standards of applicable specialty nursing organizations; and CHOP developed standards of nursing practice and may mentor others to incorporate these guidelines into their individual practice. The professional nurse practices within the defined scope of practice designated by the Nurse Practice Acts of Pennsylvania and/or New Jersey, depending on the assigned work site. The Behavioral Health Resource Nurse Expert will round to clinical areas that care for patients with behavioral health needs. The overall goal of this role is to provide additional consultation and support to the clinical care teams caring for patients with behavioral health needs. In particular, this role will have a specific focus on nursing staff to ensure compliance with Regulations that pertain to patients with behavioral health needs. What you will do * Clinical Practice * Follows the nursing process to ensure safe, compassionate, and culturally effective care is provided to patients. * Reviews clinical documentation to ensure compliance with Regulations pertaining to patients with behavioral health needs. * Manages the care of complex and/or vulnerable populations through expert consultation and partnership with the bedside RN care. Anticipates and synthesizes complex assessment data to best determine and influence total plan of care, pertinent data to be shared with care team, and tasks to be delegated. * Recognizes and/or seeks resources to recognize clinical changes that are indicative of patient behavioral deterioration; is a member of and utilizes the Violent Restraint Rapid Response Team when appropriate. * Coaches and interacts with staff at the bedside to coordinate all facets of patient care with the multidisciplinary team. Assures coordination of care across the continuum, utilizing case management resources as needed. * Consistently follows evidence based practice bundles and nursing standards/procedures to provide nursing care that eliminates preventable events of patient harm and promotes excellent patient outcomes. Aware of trends in nursing outcomes and mentors nurses to improve outcomes. * Recognizes patient/family situations which create ethical dilemmas or distress for self and/or colleagues; provides leadership to resolve the distress and/or ensure caregiver support. * Is an expert educator of staff. * Evaluates and may document the behavioral support provided and/or needed on each assigned shift. * Merges understanding of clinical practice and clinical data to serve as a leader for quality improvement initiatives and the creation of care standards to contribute to evidenced based practice within behavioral health. * Provides expertise in implementation of evidenced-based practice and professional practice standards. * Accountable for the adoption and rapid implementation of clinical practice changes into own practice; assists less experienced staff with developing this skill. * Communication * Supports the documentation of the evaluation of nursing interventions and outcomes of nursing care utilizing hospital standards, policies and procedures. * Consistently follows safe hand-off practices as defined in patient care standards and procedures; coaches colleagues in hand-offs. * Exemplifies the use of safety behaviors for error prevention and hold colleagues accountable for their use. Identifies and addresses potential safety events and communicates with unit leadership as needed. Enters safety nets, including those for good catch/near miss situations. Follows up on safety events as assigned. Identifies trends in safety event reports and participates in systems improvement to respond to the trend. * Role models effective verbal and nonverbal communication techniques and good listening skills to empathically communicate with patients/ families, and colleagues. Coaches others to improve communication skills. * Encourages patient/family self-advocacy. * Coaches and supports unit based nurses and multidisciplinary teams in effectively managing patient care and communication. * Collaboration * Demonstrates effective teamwork as a leader/member of the interdisciplinary care team, fostering and exemplifying a culture of respect. Addresses/manages situations where disrespectful collaboration may impact patient care and/or create non-collaborative relationships. Revises the plan of care according to the patient care decisions made on rounds. Education Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree Nursing Required Experience Qualifications * At least two (2) years Previous nursing experience or completion of CHOP Nurse Resident Program. Required and * At least one (1) year Experience in a Psychiatric hospital/behavioral health setting Required * pediatric experience or prior experience in your area of specialty.
