Position: Real Estate Accounting Manager
Real Estate Accounting Manager Job Summary:
The Real Estate Accounting Manager will oversee and manage all accounting operations for the real estate division, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and effective financial planning. This individual will lead a team, manage the financial aspects of real estate transactions, and provide strategic insights to drive business growth.
Real Estate Accounting Manager Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting & Analysis:
Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for real estate properties and investments. - Transaction Management:
Oversee the accounting processes for property acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, and financing. Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with internal policies and external regulations. - Budgeting & Forecasting:
Lead the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial projections for properties and real estate portfolios. Monitor actual performance against budgets and provide variance analysis. - Compliance & Tax:
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including real estate taxes and property-related financial filings. Collaborate with tax advisors to optimize tax strategies. - Cash Flow Management:
Manage cash flow forecasting and planning, ensuring adequate liquidity for real estate operations and projects. - Team Leadership & Development:
Lead and mentor the real estate accounting team, providing guidance on technical accounting issues, professional development, and process improvements. - Internal Controls & Auditing:
Develop and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard real estate assets. Coordinate with internal and external auditors to ensure financial integrity and compliance. - Financial Strategy Support:
Work closely with senior management and the finance team to provide insights and recommendations on real estate investments, operational efficiencies, and capital structure optimization. - Systems & Process Improvement:
Implement and optimize accounting systems and processes to increase efficiency and accuracy in reporting and financial management.
Real Estate Accounting Manager Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- Experience:
- 5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in real estate accounting or property management.
- Strong understanding of real estate accounting principles, including lease accounting (ASC 842), property-level financials, and real estate tax regulations.
- Experience managing teams and overseeing financial operations for a real estate portfolio.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, RealPage) and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented, with a focus on accuracy and process improvement.
