The Ophthalmic Scribe will assist the physician during patient exams by transcribing patient history and exam details into the EHR system as directed by the physician.
- Accurately document medical visits and procedures in the EHR system as performed by the physician.
- Ensure the History of Present Illness (HPI) is completed.
- Anticipate physician needs to maintain smooth clinic operations.
- Open and close exam lanes daily, ensuring proper equipment sanitation, recharging of battery-powered instruments, and switching off slit lamps and projectors under covers.
- Assist in completing EHR tasks and phone messages.
- Schedule follow-up appointments as required.
- Transcribe physician examination data into the patient’s electronic medical record.
- Perform telephone triage to assess urgent or emergent patient needs and create schedules accordingly. Respond promptly to messages from patients, pharmacists, and physicians, and handle prior authorizations for medications.
- Complete electronic prescription refill requests.
- Restock and clean exam rooms after patient care, conducting area sweeps throughout the day and closing rooms at the end of the clinic.
- Check medicine inventory and expiration dates, replacing items as necessary.
- Provide patient education on medication administration and pre- and post-operative instructions as directed by the physician.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1 year of previous experience as a Scribe.
- Experience in Ophthalmology.
- Ophthalmic Scribe Certification.
