Job SummaryThe Pharmacy Technician supports the daily operations of the pharmacy by assisting pharmacists with the preparation and dispensing of medications, managing medication inventory, and providing exceptional customer service. This position requires a detail-oriented and efficient individual with a strong understanding of pharmacy operations, including prescription processing, third-party rejections, and insurance claims.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrescription Processing:
  • Accurately enter prescription orders into the pharmacy system for dispensing.
  • Process and fill medication orders, ensuring that all prescriptions are correct, complete, and accurately labeled.
  • Handle medication refills and transfers in accordance with pharmacy protocols and regulations.
Customer Service:
  • Interact with patients and healthcare providers in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Answer patient inquiries regarding medications, dosage instructions, and potential side effects.
  • Assist in educating patients on proper medication use and safety precautions.
Insurance & Billing:
  • Work with third-party insurance companies to resolve claims and rejections.
  • Ensure accuracy when entering insurance information and submitting claims for reimbursement.
  • Process third-party rejections and coordinate with providers to address discrepancies.
Inventory Management:
  • Assist in maintaining and managing medication inventory, ensuring that stock levels are adequate and medications are stored appropriately.
  • Help with ordering medications and supplies to meet pharmacy needs.
General Support:
  • Provide general administrative support to pharmacists, including organizing and maintaining patient records and pharmacy files.
  • Ensure that the pharmacy environment complies with safety regulations and cleanliness standards.
Required Skills & ExperienceCertification:
  • PTCB Certification (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) is required.
  • PHAT or PHATP (Pharmacy Technician Advanced Training Program) certification preferred.
Experience:
  • Experience in pharmacy practice with a minimum of prescription data entry and filling.
  • Experience with third-party insurance claims and rejections is preferred.
  • Previous pharmacy technician experience in a retail, hospital, or clinic setting is a plus.
Skills:
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when processing prescriptions.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer and pharmacy software proficiency.
Preferred QualificationsEducation:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program is preferred.
Certifications:
  • Additional certifications in pharmacy-related fields (e.g., Immunization Certification) are a plus.
