Compensation: $27-$31 an hour dependent on experience

Job Summary:

The Operating Room Certified Surgical Technician supports Ophthalmic patient care in the operating room under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and Physician. This role includes assisting in the preparation and maintenance of sterile and un-sterile supplies and equipment, and performing the duties of a Certified Surgical Technician as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning and preparation for intra-operative nursing care of patients.
  • Perform as a scrub technician during surgical interventions, maintaining aseptic technique and assisting the surgical team as needed.
  • Ensure proper cleaning, care, and sterilization of instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintain a safe and efficient environment in the operating room, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to maintain effective relationships with patients, families, co-workers, and physicians.
  • Exhibit dependability and accountability through consistent attendance and adherence to Center policies.
  • Participate in ongoing professional growth through required in-service programs and educational opportunities.
  • Perform other related duties as directed to support the Surgery Center’s operations.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate.
  • Graduate of a recognized surgical technologist program.
  • Certification by the American Association of Surgical Technologists (preferred).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum of one year of operating room experience, with a variety of surgical procedures; experience in ophthalmology surgery, cardiology surgery, pain management, and gastroenterology is preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Must withstand long periods of walking, standing, and varied physical motions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.

Standards of Care and Evaluation Criteria:

The Surgical Scrub Technician is expected to adhere to the highest standards of care, including:

  • Preparation of sterile and un-sterile supplies and equipment before surgical procedures.
  • Assisting surgeons and the surgical team during operations, including draping, maintaining instrument tables, and applying dressings.
  • Proper cleaning, sterilization, and storage of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Maintaining a safe and clean environment in compliance with operating room policies.
  • Utilizing interpersonal skills to function effectively as a team member and uphold professional relationships.
  • Demonstrating reliability by adhering to work schedules, policies, and providing timely communication regarding absences.
  • Engaging in professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
