A public transportation agency in Pierce County is looking for knowledgeable and talented Journey Level Mechanics to join their Fleet Maintenance team. The individuals they are looking for are seasoned professionals with the experience and capability to step into a high performing team. They will have a reputation for keeping safety top of mind, showing a high level of reliability, and taking great pride in their work. Regular duties in this role will include providing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and diagnosing issues, and repairing natural gas, diesel, and gasoline powered vehicles and equipment. 

 

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • 5-10 years of journey-level mechanical work experience in transit, bus, automotive, freightliner, or over-the-road coach maintenance.
  • Use jacks, wrenches, grease guns, hydraulic hoists, cleaning materials and other tools and equipment used in the service and repair of heavy equipment.
  • Pass a job-related examination; pass federally required drug and alcohol testing.
  • Knowledge of principles of spark-ignited or diesel powered engines.
  • Drive all job-related vehicles and maintain a valid Washington State driver's license and CDL as required (if they don’t have a CDL, will pay for their certification)

Day-to-Day:

  1. Diagnoses malfunctions and adjusts fuel, electrical, programmable logic controls (PLC's) and mechanical systems to specifications.
  2. Repairs, adjusts, or replaces complete or integral parts of natural gas, diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, drive trains and differentials, and lubrication, cooling, exhaust after treatment, and air or hydraulic systems.
  3. Removes, rebuilds, and replaces automatic transmissions in buses, trucks and automobiles.
  4. Inspects, adjusts, troubleshoots, and repairs bus door operation, air-ride systems, steering systems, and wheelchair lifts.
  5. Makes bus changes throughout the Pierce Transit service area.
  6. Notifies the Fleet Assistant Manager, or delegate, of necessary repairs that had not previously been assigned.
  7. Enters work order data on Agency personal computers and on handwritten work orders.
