Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Tool and Die Maker to join our team. The ideal candidate will interpret specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, visualize products to determine materials required, and select the appropriate machines to fabricate parts and molds. The candidate should be proficient in using all shop equipment, including milling, lathe, precision grinding, polishing, and fitting.

Responsibilities
  • Interpret specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions to determine materials and machines required.
  • Utilize a complete set of toolmaker skills with all shop equipment (milling, lathe, precision grinding, polishing, and fitting) to make parts to print.
  • Grind flat and contoured surfaces, fit assemblies together, and into mechanisms using surface grinders.
  • Perform advanced manual machining operations, including milling contours, engraving, turning threads, boring pockets, grinding flats, diameters, shoulders, slots, and dressing radii.
  • Maintain close and exacting tolerances and finish requirements, ensuring the highest quality workmanship on all tools, gages, and fixtures with minimal scrap.
  • Apply advanced shop mathematics, including trigonometry, and use gages, precision measuring instruments, and necessary inspection equipment.
  • Work independently with minimal guidance in a team environment as required.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.
  • Set-up and assemble new equipment and support manufacturing and engineering on new and existing product lines.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair on injection molds, including electrical and hydraulic components.
  • Reverse engineer and manufacture mold components within time limitations.
  • Rebuild complete hot runner systems and perform complex mold repairs and spot shutoffs.
Essential Skills
  • Complete set of toolmaker skills with all shop equipment (milling, lathe, precision grinding, polishing, and fitting).
  • Advanced manual machining skills including milling contours, engraving, turning threads, boring pockets, grinding flats, diameters, shoulders, slots, and dressing radii.
  • Advanced shop mathematics, including trigonometry.
  • Knowledge of gages, precision measuring instruments, and necessary inspection equipment.
  • 4 and 5 axis CNC skills for mill or lathe.
  • Extensive knowledge of detail cutting tool geometry for different cutting tool types and materials.
  • Manual mill, progressive die, EDM, surface grinder, manual milling, injection molding, TIG welding.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of experience with progressive die tool and die making.
  • Basic welding skills (TIG, Micro) for minor touch-up work.
  • Frequent standing, occasional walking or sitting, and occasional use of hands to handle objects, tools, or controls.
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.
