We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Full-Time Special Education Teacher to join our team in Cheshire, CT, and help make a positive difference in the lives of students with special needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Adapt and modify curriculum to meet the needs of students with diverse learning disabilities, including academic, social, and behavioral goals.
  • Provide direct instruction to students in small group and one-on-one settings.
  • Monitor and assess student progress on IEP goals, adjusting instruction as needed to promote success.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive education practices and facilitate effective co-teaching.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and progress toward IEP goals.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress, behavior, and needs.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other school-related meetings.
  • Implement effective behavior management strategies, using positive reinforcement and proactive techniques.
  • Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel respected and valued.
  • Stay current with best practices in special education and participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Connecticut State Certification in Special Education (or eligible for certification).
  • Bachelors degree in Special Education (Masters degree preferred).
  • Experience working with students with special needs, including experience in writing and implementing IEPs.
  • Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail in documentation and record-keeping.
  • Compassionate, patient, and dedicated to supporting the success of all students.
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic, team-oriented school environment.
