Developmental Technician - Kearny Mesa Subaru/Genesis

Job Summary:

A Service Technician II inspects, maintains, and repairs vehicles. In this role you will use diagnostic tools to identify the source of problems and then make adjustments or repairs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

Essential Functions:

  • Identify mechanical problems, either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform tests on specific parts and systems to confirm proper mechanical function; ensures that all critical parts are examined.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance, including oil changes and tune-ups.
  • Diagnose the cause of malfunctions and perform work specified on the repair order with efficiency and in accordance with dealership and/or factory standards.
  • Repair or replace all parts of a vehicle including wheels, axles, frames, defective ball joint suspensions and brake shoes; install and repair air conditioners and servicing components such as compressors, condensers, and controls; and testing electronic computer components in automobiles to ensure that they are working properly, if applicable.
  • Communicate directly with the Service Advisor so customers can be informed if any additional service is needed.
  • Responsible for providing and maintaining an inventory of normal mechanics tools to include screwdrivers, wrenches, socket wrenches, pliers, hammers, chisels and punches, and other tools needed to perform the work for which the technician is trained and not normally inventoried by the service department as “special tools”.
  • Provide an estimate of time needed for additional repairs, if applicable.
  • Inspect and test new vehicles for damage and record findings so that necessary repairs can be made.
  • Repair or replace malfunctioning parts and systems, such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
  • Perform further tests, which may include test driving the vehicle, to ensure repairs are completed correctly.
  • Keep up to date on federal, state and local regulations that affect operations, and comply with these regulations as well as hazardous waste disposal and OSHA policies. Maintain satisfactory attendance.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • 1 year experience as an entry-level automotive technician, or 1 year of completed automotive hands-on course work.

Valid Driver’s license and safe driving record; required to have California within 30 days.

  • Ability to regularly lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations that affect operations, and must also comply with these regulations as well as hazardous waste disposal and OSHA policies.

  • Ability to perform all essential functions of the job description.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), a certified technical training program in automotive technology at a high school or at a community college, as the best preparation for entry-level positions.

Knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair.Excellent mechanical repair skills.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.
  • Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
  • Ability to read and interpret service and repair manuals.
  • Ability to perform repairs in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequently stands, walks, sits; uses hands; reaches with hands and arms; talks and hears.

Occasionally climbs or balances; bend, stretch, stoops, kneels, crouches, squats or crawls to perform repairs and inspectionsFrequently lift up to 50 pounds.
