We are looking for a dedicated Lab Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for sample preparation, analysis, and documentation. This role involves working with microscopes, maintaining lab equipment, and ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures.
Responsibilities- Meet with the team in the morning and prep samples.
- Weigh and prepare samples for analysis.
- Analyze samples using microscopes (PLM) and take pictures of the samples.
- Generate data from samples and document sample submissions using a computer.
- Track samples and calculate concentrations accurately according to regulatory methods.
- Maintain and calibrate microscopes, ensuring proper documentation of raw data.
- Prepare project files and ensure sample tracking, disposal, and archiving are performed correctly.
- Operate and report PLM using LIMS and document sample numbers and dates in a log book.
- Ensure reagents and samples are not contaminated during handling and analysis.
- Analyze talc samples using Amscope Camera and Program.
- Begin project work immediately upon receipt and compile draft reports.
- Meet department and client turnaround times and pass all required QC sample rounds.
- Maintain project lab and logbooks and ensure cleanliness in lab areas daily.
- Report any change requests, out-of-service issues, or out-of-specification issues to management within 24 hours.
- Provide accurate and timely QC data to the QAO and log in samples as necessary.
- Follow all required documentation protocols and respond to internal email inquiries within 12 hours.
- Draft SOPs and submit to department managers for review.
- Experience in Optical Microscopy, specifically PLM (Polarized Light Microscope).
- Calibration of various instruments including microscopes, balances, and thermometers.
- Sample preparation skills including epoxy mounts, embedding, sectioning, polishing, and sputter coating.
- Proficiency in using computers and navigating software programs.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- College degree in geology, material sciences, or a related field.
- Experience with Amscope Camera and Program is a plus but not required.
- Experience with LIMS is a plus but not required.
- Experience in a lab using electron or optical microscopes is beneficial.
- Ability to work well with others, self-starter, and demonstrate initiative.
The work environment includes a team of 2 TEM analysts, 1 SEM analyst, 1 PLM analyst, and a Microscopy Manager. The schedule is flexible, requiring 8 hours of work per day, with the option to start as early as 6am. The role involves extended periods of standing, sitting, and ocular work, and the ability to distinguish colors, size, and details. The position requires moving samples and supplies up to 15 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance.
