The Patient Access Manager reports to the Revenue Cycle Director and works closely with hospital Case Management, Scheduling, Utilization Review, Health Information Management, Patient Financial Services, Referral/Prior Authorization, Hospital/Clinic Operations, and clinical service departments to ensure effective patient access operations both inter- and intra-departmentally.

The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of the Samaritan Revenue Cycle, along with having the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates. This is a full-time salary exempt position.

DIRECT REPORTS:

  • Direct Reports: Admitting Coordinator & Admitting Clerks I & II

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES (not limited to):

  1. Relationship Orientated; developing and fostering relationships through respect, open communication, trust and partnership.
  2. Active participation, representing the interests of Samaritan, in professional associations
  3. Inspiring alignment and development of operational practices to achieve business goals
  4. Keeping professional knowledge and skills current to make operations work effectively
  5. Develops and fosters an employer of choice culture
  6. Effective Hiring & Onboarding – through peer panel interviewing, behavior based interviewing, ensuring all new hires attend organizational orientation, and though new employee rounding (day 30/60/90).
  7. Demonstrated through – Budgeting (annual and ongoing), optimization, and utilizing benchmarking (Samaritan and industry).
  8. Responsible for reporting audit goals, resource management and fiscal stewardship, maximization of productivity and cost containment, revenue generating opportunities, and monthly operational review.
  9. Regulatory compliance (DNV, DOH, Stark, etc)
  10. Leading Change - by adherence to standardized improvement method(s) (e.g., PDSA, Lean/A3, etc.) and/or Project Management System, surveying & improving the employee and patient experience, departments “grabbing the baton” for organization-wide improvement efforts and projects, and by leveraging stakeholder engagement/employee-driven team structures.
  11. Achieving Standards - through utilizing the Samaritan standards of behavior and positive communication standards.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education:
    1. Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree required
  2. Experience:
    1. Minimum 5 years’ experience in healthcare revenue cycle required
    2. Minimum 2 years’ experience in management and supervisory leadership.
  3. Skills:
    1. Proficient critical thinking, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    2. Keen understanding of general healthcare operations.
    3. Ability to supervise and manage staff members in a fair and consistent manner.
    4. Works well in a team environment and can effectively motivate team members.
    5. Strong time management and prioritization skills.
    6. Proficient in EHR and other systems used by the organization (e.g., EPIC, Meditech).
    7. Seeks resources for direction, when necessary. Performs independent problem solving. Decision-making is logical and deliberate.
    8. Performs actions that demonstrate accountability. Exercises safe judgment in decision-making. Practices within legal and ethical guidelines.
    9. Exhibits professionalism, trustworthiness, honesty, and integrity.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Frequent periods using a keyboard and other input devices to enter information into computer systems.
  2. Frequent periods of stationary work at a computer workstation.
  3. Occasional prolonged standing/walking. Occasional lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.
  4. Mild physical effort, lift/carry up to 25+ lbs.
  5. Good reading eyesight; full visual acuity, depth perception, and color perception.
  6. Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.
