Director of Hospice – Physician


POSITION TYPE: Physician – Director

SPECIALTY UNIT: Hospice

LOCATION: Houston, TX

SHIFT: Days

JOB TYPE: Part-Time Permanent


Job Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Director of Hospice to lead and manage the hospice care program. This individual will be responsible for providing clinical expertise, overseeing patient care, and ensuring high-quality medical services to patients with life-limiting illnesses. The Director will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure compliance with regulatory standards while supporting the emotional and physical well-being of patients and their families.



Responsibilities:

  • Lead the clinical management of hospice patients, including comprehensive assessment, treatment planning, and ongoing medical oversight.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (nurses, social workers, chaplains, etc.) to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
  • Establish and maintain clinical policies and procedures that meet state and federal regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Provide guidance on pain management, symptom control, and palliative care to enhance the patient’s quality of life.
  • Communicate regularly with patients and their families to address medical concerns and provide compassionate support.
  • Ensure compliance with hospice certification requirements and participate in performance improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison between the hospice program and other healthcare providers, including hospitals, nursing facilities, and private physicians.
  • Oversee the hospice clinical staff, providing mentorship and medical leadership to ensure professional development and high-quality care delivery.
  • Participate in the recruitment and ongoing training of hospice medical personnel.

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) with a valid and active medical license in State of Practice.
  • Board-certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine (preferred) or relevant field.
  • 1+ years of experience in hospice care or palliative medicine.
  • Previous leadership or management experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong knowledge of hospice care regulations and end-of-life care best practices.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care.
