Job Description: Special Education Teacher (School-Based)

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelors degree in Special Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
    • Masters degree in Special Education (preferred).
  • Licensure and Certification:
    • ValidOregon Special Education Teaching Licensewith an endorsement inSpecial Education (Early Childhood through High School)(required).
    • Oregon TSPC (Teacher Standards and Practices Commission) Certificationin Special Education (required).
    • Criminal background checkandfingerprintingclearance, as required by Oregon state law.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting is preferred.
    • Familiarity with developing and implementing IEPs is highly valued.
    • Experience working with students in both self-contained and inclusive settings is a plus.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
    • Knowledge of Oregon state standards for special education and best practices in teaching students with disabilities.
    • Ability to modify and adapt lessons to meet the individual needs of students.
    • Proficient in the use of educational technology and assistive devices to enhance learning.
    • Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting students academic, social, and emotional growth.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our school. The Special Education Teacher will work with students who have a range of disabilities, including physical, learning, emotional, and developmental challenges. This role involves creating and delivering individualized educational plans (IEPs), fostering an inclusive classroom environment, and collaborating with other school staff, parents, and specialists to ensure student success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, ensuring they meet academic, social, and emotional needs.
  • Provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in a variety of settings, including inclusive classrooms, small groups, and one-on-one.
  • Adapt curriculum materials to meet the diverse needs of students, using specialized teaching techniques and accommodations as outlined in the IEPs.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, counselors, school psychologists, and other support staff to ensure the delivery of a well-rounded educational experience for all students.
  • Provide direct instruction and support to students in areas such as reading, math, social skills, and behavioral management.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including progress reports, IEP documentation, and assessments.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and school-wide activities to engage with students and families.
  • Implement behavioral interventions and strategies to support students in achieving their IEP goals and promoting positive behavior in the classroom.
  • Stay informed of best practices, special education laws, and regulations related to students with disabilities.
