Job Title: Conventional/CNC Machinist

Location: Mechanic Falls, ME

Salary: $25 - $28 per hour (Full-time)

Shift: Monday to Friday, Day shift (with Overtime availability)

Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Conventional/CNC Machinist to join a custom machine shop that focuses on producing small batches of highly specialized parts (1-20 parts per customer). The ideal candidate will have experience setting up and operating a range of manual machines, such as Horizontal Boring Mills (HBMs), Vertical Turning Lathes (VTLs), conventional lathes, and milling machines. CNC experience is desirable but not required.

As a machinist in this position, you will work in a low-volume, high-quality environment that requires creative problem-solving and strategic planning to successfully complete jobs. Our focus is on custom work, not production, which means each project will require thoughtful, individualized approaches to machining.

Key Responsibilities:

Set up and operate large and medium manual machines, including HBMs, VTLs, lathes, and milling machines.

Interpret technical drawings and blueprints to machine custom parts to precise specifications.

Strategize creative solutions to complete unique machining tasks, as most jobs are non-repetitive and require specialized setups.

Maintain high levels of quality control by performing inspections of parts to ensure they meet design specifications.

Collaborate with a skilled team of machinists and participate in peer coaching and training.

Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Qualifications:

Machining experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience operating manual machines (HBMs, VTLs, Lathes, Milling machines).

CNC experience: 1 year of CNC machining experience preferred but not required.

Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders.

Experience working in a custom machine shop environment is a plus.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precision parts.

Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Problem-solving skills to develop creative machining solutions.
