Job Description

Perform specialized weld functions required in the production of heat and transfer equipment. The welding will primarily be Flux Core and TIG. The ideal candidate will be proficient in an out-of-position manner with a minimum of twelve procedures. This includes FCAW, GMAW & GTAW processes as a minimum, including two specialty procedures with good weld quality and production time.

Weld Test:
  • FCAW: 5F 3/8" multi pass filler weld. If they can't pass this visual test all testing is done and the welder will be dismissed. If the applicant passes the 5F, we move to FC plate test.
  • GTAW/FCAW: 6G XXS 2.5in pipe. The root pass is visually inspected before the welder can continue. If the root pass is rejected by visual inspection (VI) all testing is done and the applicant is dismissed. If the VI is acceptable, the welder continues. Tig welding uses a foot pedal, NOT a thumb trigger.
  • FCAW: 2G, 3G and 4G on 1/2in plate with a 60deg included bevel and still backing. The root pass is visually inspected before the welder can continue. If the root pass is rejected by visual inspection (VI) all testing is done and the applicant is dismissed.
  • GMAW: 2G & 3G on 1/2" plate with an open root. The 3G test will have the root pass done vertical down and hot pass, fill and cap vertical up. Same inspection criteria as FC will be followed.
  • GTAW: 2G & 3G on 1/2" test plates with an open root with 60 degrees included bevel. Same inspection criteria as GMAW test plates.
Parameters/Amps:
  • FCAW parameters = 175-350 A / 23- 30 V
  • GMAW parameters = 110-200 A / 17-22 V
  • GTAW parameters = 70-250 A
