Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)

Location: Kansas, United States
Job Type: Fulltime, Next School Year Contract - Work From Home
Pay: $30+/Hour


Responsibilities:
Instructional Planning and Delivery:

  • Develop and implement appropriate educational strategies and materials to meet the academic, developmental, and social-emotional needs of students with visual impairments.
  • Adapt and modify curriculum content and instructional methods to accommodate various learning styles and levels of visual impairment.
  • Utilize specialized teaching techniques and assistive technologies to enhance student learning and accessibility.

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of students visual abilities, educational needs, and progress to inform instructional planning and intervention strategies.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to interpret assessment results and develop educational goals and objectives aligned with students IEPs.

Individualized Education Planning:

  • Participate in the development, review, and revision of IEPs for students with visual impairments, ensuring that goals and objectives are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART).
  • Work closely with parents, caregivers, and other stakeholders to establish collaborative partnerships and promote family involvement in the educational process.

Instructional Support and Consultation:

  • Provide consultation and support to general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other school staff on strategies for accommodating and including students with visual impairments in the general education setting.
  • Collaborate with community agencies, healthcare providers, and other service providers to coordinate services and resources for students with visual impairments.

Professional Development and Advocacy:

  • Stay informed about current research, best practices, and legal requirements related to the education of students with visual impairments.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of students with visual impairments within the school community and broader educational system.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills related to teaching students with visual impairments.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education with a specialization in Visual Impairments or related field.
  • Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) from the Kansas Department of Education or eligibility for certification.
  • Knowledge of specialized instructional techniques, assistive technologies, and resources for students with visual impairments.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development in the field of visual impairments education.
