Assignment Overview:
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Duration: 26 weeks with the possibility for extension based on performance and facility needs.
  • Schedule: 5x8-hour shifts per week, with variable day and afternoon rotations.
    • Primary Shifts:
      • 7:00 am 3:30 pm
      • 2:30 pm 11:00 pm
    • Flexibility required for shift rotations to support pharmacy coverage.
Core Responsibilities:

This position involves a blend of clinical and supervisory responsibilities in a fast-paced inpatient hospital setting. Key duties include:

  1. Order Verification:

    • Review and verify medication orders to ensure accuracy, appropriateness, and pliance with hospital protocols and patient-specific requirements.

  2. Supervision of Pharmacy Technicians:

    • Lead and provide guidance to pharmacy technicians, ensuring accurate and efficient workflow.
    • Oversee the preparation and dispensing of medications, and ensure all work aligns with regulatory standards.

  3. Pharmacokinetic Dosing and Therapeutic Medication Monitoring:

    • Conduct pharmacokinetic assessments to determine appropriate dosing for individual patients.
    • Monitor patient therapeutic levels and adjust medications to achieve optimal outes, ensuring safety and efficacy.

  4. Interprofessional Collaboration:

    • Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to advise on medication management, address clinical inquiries, and provide remendations for therapy adjustments.
    • Participate in patient care rounds as needed to provide insights on pharmacologic treatment plans.

  5. IT and Automation Systems Management:

    • Utilize Cerner electronic health record (EHR) to document patient interactions, verify orders, and update medication records.
    • Use Pyxis medication dispensing technology for secure and accurate dispensing.
Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Licensure:

    • Active Illinois Pharmacist license in good standing is required.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 1 year of recent inpatient hospital pharmacy experience. Experience in a large or busy hospital setting is highly preferred.
    • Familiarity with pharmacokinetic dosing, patient monitoring, and therapeutic adjustments.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficient in Cerner EHR and Pyxis systems. Previous experience with these technologies in a clinical setting is ideal.

  • Soft Skills:

    • Strong munication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with medical teams.
    • Ability to work efficiently in a dynamic, high-volume environment while maintaining attention to detail and patient safety.
