Job DescriptionJob DescriptionELECTRICIAN 1/CWill possess a basic level of knowledge, skills, and abilities, with limited supervision, to inspect, maintain, install and repair electrical wiring, components, and fixtures, on board Navy vessels, on job sites, and in the workshop.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain, install, and service electrical wiring, components, and systems by inspecting, testing, repairing, and replacing faulty components, circuits, printed circuit boards, and similar electronic devices.
  • Possess a basic knowledge to perform testing of a/c and d/c motors, circuits, components, devices, and cabling for heating and ventilation systems utilizing meggers, phase monitors, and multimeters.
  • Exercise basic knowledge and understanding of electrical theory and principles, Navy specifications and standards, properties of materials, and principles of operation of electrical equipment and its components.
  • Displays a basic knowledge of different power systems and the requirements for trouble shooting and testing of 24-volt DC, 110-volt AC, thru 440-volt AC.
  • Able to follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to job requirements and standards or codes.
  • Read and work from wiring diagrams, specifications, and instructions from supervisors covering emergency and scheduled repairs, installation, and electrical inspection work to be performed.
  • Familiar with EPISM (Electric Plant Installation Methods) for shipboard and/or NEC/NFPA for residential and industrial buildings to determine proper size conduit, terminal lugs, cabling, connectors, wiring, cable splicing for electrical installation.
  • Must be able to perform troubleshooting procedures utilizing technical manuals and electrical schematics for repair and servicing of ventilation systems, galley equipment, lighting systems and A/C plant control devices.
  • Utilize NAVSEA standard item 009-73/22 electrical cable testing for insulation resistance and continuity and be familiar with MIL-STD-1310 and/or NEC/NFPA 70 Electrical circuits grounding and bounding methods.
  • Use a variety of tools or equipment, such as measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, to include volt-ohm meters, ammeters, or test lamps.
  1. Must have familiarization in standard electrical safety requirements and energized electrical work procedures in accordance with NSTM 300.
  2. Perform physically demanding tasks, such as running conductors or moving or lifting heavy objects.
  3. Performs all duties as deemed necessary by Project Manager, supervisor/foreman.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. No direct supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High school diploma or GED required, and 2 or more years of related experience or equivalent combination of training and experience in field.
  2. Tech school/Trade school certification preferred, but not required.
  3. The ability to/or currently possess an apprenticeship and/or formal training in the electrical field.
REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Ability to obtain job specific training/certifications, as required. (OSHA 10 maritime, Firewatch, Etc.)
  2. Must pass drug test and background check, and any job specific medical screening, as required.
  3. Ability to gain access to military/government installations.
  4. Available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime, as required to meet job demands.
