Job DescriptionJob DescriptionSummary/Objective
- Develop, validate, troubleshoot, and operate CMM programs, conducting precise inspections—such as First Article Inspections (FAIs)—to ensure products meet all relevant specifications.
- Support Engineering in New Product Development and Investigations within Metrology by performing sample measurements, providing feedback, and participating early in drawing and GD&T reviews, as well as in initial evaluations of measurement capabilities.
Essential Functions
- Apply expert knowledge of GD&T and Metrology principles to program CMMs and vision systems, ensuring product compliance with standards.
- Perform high-precision measurements on both machined and purchased parts and generate inspection reports.
- Interpret and apply ASME standards accurately across various inspection processes.
- Develop CMM programs from part drawings or models, troubleshoot and update existing programs, and carry out inspections as needed.
- Collaborate with the team to identify and address efficiency gaps, implementing improvements.
- Evaluate measurement standards and processes to create precise and repeatable measurement strategies.
- Work closely with Quality Engineers, Technicians, and Inspectors to create guidelines for inspection tools and to establish inspection methods that support business objectives.
- Contribute to quality inspection improvement initiatives and the creation of inspection plans.
- Participate in quality investigations related to measurement methods.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Competencies
- Proficient in mechanical inspection with hands-on experience using manual and visual inspection equipment, such as calipers, gauges, micrometers, digital indicators, surface plates, optical comparators, microscopes, coordinate measuring machines, profilometers, and hardness/durometer testers.
- Extensive knowledge of GD&T principles and ASME Y14.5-2018 application (ASME Y14.5 Certification preferred).
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering practices for machined parts.
- Skilled in CMM programming.
- Effective communication skills, with attention to detail and data entry proficiency.
- Team-oriented, with the ability to foster positive working relationships across departments.
- Competent in computer use, including Microsoft Office.
- Motivated to learn, improve, and apply new skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with an organized and analytical approach.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
