Position: Laser Welding Engineer

Duration: 6 month contract + potential extensions & direct hire

Location: Redford, MI

Pay rate: $35-45/hr

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s in engineering: Mechanical or Welding Certification or 10+ years working experience
  • 5+ years' experience with laser welding processes (welding aluminum and copper)
  • Knowledge of copper and aluminum alloys used in electrical component designs
  • Experience welding electrical products ex. Stator, e-motor, battery, e-drive, e-axle etc.
  • 5+ years prior experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment
  • Working level knowledge of fixture design principles, stackups, print reading and GD&T.
  • Experience performing manufacturing feasibility assessments.

 

Plusses:

  • Laser welding certs: preferable from Ferris State, Ohio State or Pennsylvania College of Technology
  • Experience in Electrified Powertrain component manufacturing and production.
  • Experience introducing & establishing a new Core Competency (i.e. laser welding) into production plant.
  • Non-destructive inspection techniques such as X-Ray and microscopy as well as destructive testing methods.
  • Familiarity with required Safety and Facilities requirements to install laser equipment in a Ford facility.
  • Ability to work in a production setting and aid in troubleshooting of supplier equipment and processes

 

Day to Day:

Insight Global is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer with a laser welding background for a large OEM. This role is based out of Redford Michigan. In this role, the Manufacturing Engineer will work with the manufacturing engineering team, product development and suppliers, to define robust laser welding parameters and apply them in production environments.  Process development will be accomplished through a pilot lab environment with production intent equipment.  The individual will be expected to work efficiently on independent projects as well as with teams.  Successful candidates will have a proven record of working with cross functional teams in the development and implementation of high-volume manufacturing systems.  The individual will be expected to navigate and drive change in a complex internal environment, and bring new perspectives to the task of producing high quality welded joints.
