We are seeking a qualified Special Education Teacher (Life Skills) to join our team in the friendly Marlborough, NH area This full-time, in-person position for the 2024-2025 school year offers a unique chance to make a significant impact on the lives of students by providing specialized instruction and fostering a positive learning environment that prepares them for success beyond graduation.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) that cater to the specific learning needs and transition goals of students in your high school life skills classroom.
  • Utilize a variety of evidence-based instructional strategies and differentiated instruction to promote independent living skills, functional academics, career exploration, and self-advocacy skills for students with disabilities.
  • Create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that fosters student engagement, social-emotional development, positive behavior, and a sense of belonging.
  • Provide ongoing support and differentiated instruction to students with disabilities as they prepare for post-secondary education, vocational training, or independent living arrangements.
  • Collaborate effectively with parents, guardians, paraprofessionals, therapists, career counselors, and other professionals to ensure a cohesive team approach to successful student transitions.
  • Develop and implement curriculum focused on daily living skills, money management, budgeting, cooking, personal care, community navigation, and social interaction.
  • Integrate technology and assistive devices as needed to support student learning and independence.
  • Monitor student progress, analyze data on interventions, and make adjustments as needed to personalize instruction and ensure continued development towards successful transition goals.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education, life skills curriculum development, and transition planning for students with disabilities.

This position allows you to play a vital role in supporting the educational journey and future independence of high school students with disabilities. You will work collaboratively with a dedicated team in a supportive school community nestled within the charming Marlborough region, offering a blend of small-town life and easy access to scenic New Hampshire landscapes.

Qualifications:

  • New Hampshire State Special Education Teacher License with a focus on life skills or transition planning preferred.
  • Master's degree in Special Education or a related field preferred, but a Bachelor's degree with significant experience in a high school life skills setting may be considered.
  • Prior experience working with students with disabilities in a secondary educational setting, particularly in a life skills program, is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of child development, special education methodologies, differentiated instruction practices, curriculum development for life skills education, and transition planning for students with disabilities.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with students, parents, teachers, administrators, career counselors, and other professionals.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and report writing.
  • A passion for promoting inclusive education, supporting the successful transition of students with disabilities to independent living, and empowering them to achieve self-sufficiency.
