Plastics Extruder Operator

This role is the entry-level Operator position responsible for ensuring the productivity and quality of assigned extruder operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain compliance with Company and plant safety policies and procedures at all times.
- Complete all required annual training sessions.
- Understand and proficiently operate dryer mechanics.
- Break down, clean, set up, and start extruders according to established procedures.
- Perform tooling changes (setups) on dies and safely restart extruders.
- Identify and comprehend shop orders, key dimension sheets, and related drawings.
- Operate downstream equipment effectively.
- Identify types of materials used in part production.
- Recognize and understand various screw and head types.
- Familiar with the mechanics of vacuum loading systems and blending units.
- Produce parts of medium difficulty independently, meeting quality specifications and production rates.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout shifts (e.g., safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, safety footwear).
- Ensure correct material usage per Shop Order to produce quality parts.
- Develop proficiency in machine tear down and setup procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the management team.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Working knowledge of the extrusion process and materials is highly desirable.
- Above-average communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to follow directions and adhere to established processes.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with frequent schedule and priority changes.
Physical Demands:
- Occasional lifting and moving of objects up to 50 lbs.
- Extended periods of walking, standing, and performing job functions on concrete floors.
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing environment with varying temperatures (cold or hot based on external conditions).
- Exposure to dust, odors, fumes, and noise typical of extrusion and fabrication processes.
