Plastics Extruder Operator

This role is the entry-level Operator position responsible for ensuring the productivity and quality of assigned extruder operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain compliance with Company and plant safety policies and procedures at all times.
• Complete all required annual training sessions.
• Understand and proficiently operate dryer mechanics.
• Break down, clean, set up, and start extruders according to established procedures.
• Perform tooling changes (setups) on dies and safely restart extruders.
• Identify and comprehend shop orders, key dimension sheets, and related drawings.
• Operate downstream equipment effectively.
• Identify types of materials used in part production.
• Recognize and understand various screw and head types.
• Familiar with the mechanics of vacuum loading systems and blending units.
• Produce parts of medium difficulty independently, meeting quality specifications and production rates.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout shifts (e.g., safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, safety footwear).
• Ensure correct material usage per Shop Order to produce quality parts.
• Develop proficiency in machine tear down and setup procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the management team.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Working knowledge of the extrusion process and materials is highly desirable.
• Above-average communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to follow directions and adhere to established processes.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with frequent schedule and priority changes.

Physical Demands:

• Occasional lifting and moving of objects up to 50 lbs.
• Extended periods of walking, standing, and performing job functions on concrete floors.

Work Environment:

• Manufacturing environment with varying temperatures (cold or hot based on external conditions).
• Exposure to dust, odors, fumes, and noise typical of extrusion and fabrication processes.
