Job Description

As a Lead Warehouse Material Handler, you will ensure products get where they need to be. You will receive, store, select, pack, and ship warehouse inventory. Our Zone utilizes a Warehouse Management System, so an understanding of technology is required to perform this job. This role involves overseeing five team members in the shipping department, including packers and a will-call employee. You will be responsible for directing work in an assigned area, operating warehouse equipment, and ensuring the accuracy of orders.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee a total of five team members in the shipping department.
  • Use sit-down forklifts for about 25% of the day to wrap pallets and move them to the staging area.
  • Count and verify orders on pallets.
  • Utilize cherry pickers once or twice a week to verify locations and quantities.
  • Use Manhattan Warehouse Management System (WMS) and SAP for inventory management.
  • Print and apply labels for shipments.
  • Use iPads and RF scanners for counting quantities.
  • Cover truck shipping area and communicate orders in the absence of the shipping manager.
  • Communicate with drivers to ensure customer orders are delivered on time.
  • Handle emergency deliveries if necessary.
  • Grade employees on their processing of work orders.
  • Maintain a clean and safe warehouse environment, including performing daily safety inspections.
Essential Skills
  • Experience operating forklifts and other warehouse equipment.
  • Proficiency in Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and SAP.
  • Strong counting and verification skills.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly with truck drivers and customer service teams.
  • Experience in performing cycle counts and inventory management.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Ability to perform physical tasks in a warehouse environment, including lifting various loads and climbing ladders.
  • Advanced knowledge of WMS processes and procedures.
  • Preferred four years of relevant experience.
  • A clean driving record and the ability to pass a DOT test.

Work Environment

The work environment is a non-climate-controlled warehouse, which can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter. The facility is organized and clean, spanning 265,000 square feet, with large industrial fans to circulate air. The work schedule is predictable, with no weekends or nights for most roles.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.50 - $25.00
