Handicapper / Correspondent

Position Summary:
Daily Racing Form seeks a handicapper/correspondent to cover multiple racing circuits in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States (Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia). This role will be responsible for ensuring accuracy, quality, and engaging content across DRF’s print and digital channels. The position requires strong writing and reporting skills and a knowledge of horse racing, including wagering.

Responsibilities:
Reporting:

• Report and write daily content for Daily Racing Form’s newspaper and website.
• Produce stakes previews and recaps for major races at Mid-Atlantic racetracks.
• Generate a steady flow of news to be used as feature stories or notes.
• Provide fill-in coverage on other circuits as needed.
• Opportunity to be part of the team covering Thoroughbred racing biggest events.

Handicapping:

• Produce selections (Top 3 picks) for tracks in the Mid-Atlantic region.
• Produce a daily handicapping analysis for Mid-Atlantic tracks (Laurel, Pimlico, Colonial Downs), an in-depth look at each race on a track’s card.
• Willingness to participate in handicapping videos when needed.

Job Requirements:

• Must live in the Mid-Atlantic region or be willing to relocate.
• Must have personal transportation and valid driver’s license.
• Writing and reporting experience, preferably in a fast-paced editorial environment.
• Ability to understand and interpret Daily Racing Form past performances while using them to generate informed handicapping opinions.
• Ability to work weekends and have the flexibility to work varying schedules based on the racing schedule.
• Strong understanding of horse racing, including its jargon, terminology, and industry trends.

• Exceptional writing skills with a strong grasp of grammar and general newspaper style.
• Excellent news judgment and the ability to manage high volumes of content on tight deadlines.
• Ability to build a network of sources and contacts.
• Detail-oriented and proactive in identifying ways to enhance both print and digital content for user engagement.
• Ability to identify trends and keep tabs on numerous racing circuits simultaneously.
