Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Vehicle Preparation Specialist to join our team. This role involves sanding, grinding, mounting, and repairing units in preparation for welding, assembly operations, or painting, to meet specifications as part of the manufacture of large, custom, special-purpose vehicles. The ideal candidate will work within the limits of prescribed routines and follow detailed instructions to ensure high-quality results.

Responsibilities

• Sand or grind parts or bevel edges in preparation for welding.
• Feather, flute, flat and level grind, and remove sharp edges or burrs.
• Detect and repair dents, holes, and other surface defects.
• Work from process sheets, shop orders, prints, schedules, pick-lists, and instructions.
• Blow off and wipe down components to remove grit, grease, and other foreign substances.
• Check for defects such as dents, rough weld beads, fractures, and wavy surfaces.
• Apply fillers, file, or sand areas to meet surface finish requirements.
• Apply primer over corrected areas and expose aluminum surfaces.
• Wire brush welds, grind and remove excess weld beads, and buff surfaces.
• Recognize and call attention to weld defects such as fractures, voids, porosity, and distortion.
• Change grades of abrasive or compounds to suit finishing requirements.
• Remove doors or other components, mount them on work stands or fixtures, and pull required hinges and backup bars.
• Flat surface sand specified pieces to meet cosmetic requirements.

Essential Skills

• Proficient in grinding and sanding techniques.
• Ability to read tape measures to 1/16th of an inch.
• Strong attendance, attitude, and work ethic.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
• Effective team player with a willingness to help others.
• Eager to learn and adapt to new skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with hand and powered tools, spraying equipment, forklifts, fixtures, sanders, grinders, and tape measures.
• Comfortable working with shop orders, grinders, sanding equipment, and hand tools.

Work Environment

This role is based in an open-air manufacturing facility, which can be hot during the summer and cold during the winter. Proper attire and safety equipment are essential to ensure comfort and safety in varying conditions.

The pay range for this position is $16.50 - $21.50
