Position: School-Based Paraprofessional
Job Summary: The Salem-Keizer School District is seeking a dedicated and passionate School-Based Paraprofessional to join our team in Salem, Oregon. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and staff to support students' educational and developmental needs, ensuring a positive and effective learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist teachers in delivering instructional activities and lessons.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with special needs or learning difficulties.
- Monitor and support students in various school settings, including classrooms, playgrounds, and lunchrooms.
- Help with classroom management and organization.
- Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and resources.
- Support students in developing social skills and positive behaviors.
- Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
- Participate in team meetings and professional development sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or school administration.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associates degree or higher in education or a related field is preferred.
- Experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and munication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in working with children.
Required Certificates:
- Oregon Paraprofessional Certificate (required if you do not have an associate's degree or higher, or 72 quarter hours of college coursework, or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment).
- CPR and First Aid Certification (preferred but can be obtained after hiring).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to kneel, bend, and reach as necessary to assist students.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position during the school year.
- Hours may vary based on school schedules and needs.
- Work primarily in a school setting, with occasional outdoor supervision.
