Volt is immediately hiring a Materials Scientist in Maplewood, MN with a well-known industry leader.

This is a first shift position.
As a Materials Scientist you will:

  • Manage electrocatalyst research and development process queue
  • Convert electrocatalyst design criteria provided by development team to executable fabrication plans, using standardized documentation process aligned with established fabrication processes.
  • Manage electrocatalyst materials flow through fabrication, physical and chemical characterization, and electrochemical characterization steps
  • Support and/or execute electrocatalyst fabrication steps, including web processing and thermal processing.
  • Support and/or execute fabrication of subscale electrochemical cells, including laboratory scale coating, cutting, and laminating.
  • Support and/or execute characterization of the electrocatalysts, including measurements of physical, chemical, and electrochemical properties.
  • Document all development work in periodic formal written reports or other relevant formats.
Estimated Duration 3 years

The ideal candidate will have:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Possess a Master of Science degree or 5 years of work experience in electrochemistry and/or electrocatalyst development.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a professional laboratory environment.
 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Chemical Engineering or Materials Science from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an industrial researcher.
  • Minimum two years of experience in vapor deposition methods.
  • Minimum two years of experience with electrocatalysts.
  • Minimum two years of experience with proton exchange membrane fuel cells and/or water electrolyzers
  • Familiarity with relevant characterization techniques, including X-Ray Fluorescence, X-Ray Diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and electrochemical cell test methods including cyclic voltammetry.
Pay Rate: $50-55.00 per hour

*Pay range offered to a successful candidate will be based on several factors, including the candidate's education, work experience, work location, specific job duties, certifications, etc.
