Samaritan Healthcare is seeking a Surgery Turnover Tech to serve within the surgical services team. This position is responsible for assisting the nursing units with clerical functions, internal and cross-departmental communications, room turnovers, infection control, ordering supplies, and other duties as assigned. The individual in this position reports to the Perioperative Services Director. This position works closely with all department staff in order to provide the highest and most reliable quality service on a daily basis. The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of Perioperative Services along with having the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates

This is a full-time position 40 hrs/wk working Monday-Friday, 12:00pm.to 8:30pm.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Perform room turnovers. Change bed linens as necessary on patient stretchers while patient is in OR. Assist with instrument turnover and wash instruments as time permits.
  2. Assist with weekly and monthly housekeeping functions. Defrost refrigerator on a regular basis.
  3. Assist Perioperative staff with patient transfers and restless patients.
  4. Assist with picking cases, putting away supplies and other Sterile Core Tech functions. Requests clarification on assignments appropriately, follow through and complete job assignments within the agreed upon time frame.
  5. Perform inventory and ordering of supplies per list and/or as directed by leadership.
  6. Report any equipment that is not in working order to assigned RN.
  7. Delivers specimens and tests to appropriate areas.
  8. Demonstrate proficiency in operation of hospital beds, gurneys, wheelchairs, Geri-chairs, the Hoyer lift, and other mechanical equipment.
  9. Make sure siderails are up, unless considered unnecessary by the assigned RN. Make sure bed brakes are on.
  10. Knowledge of call light system and telephone paging.
  11. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  12. Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to: security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
  13. Ensures self-compliance with organization policies and procedures, as well as labor agreements.
  14. Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the organization’s values.
  15. Conducts self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization.
  16. Ensures that additional accountabilities, as may be required by management, be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. One year Housekeeping experience preferred.
  3. Good communication skills.
  4. Knowledge of medical terminology.
  5. Basic computer skills preferred (MS Word/Excel).
  6. Basic Life Support Heartsaver (HS) level to be completed within three (3) months of hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Frequent and at times prolonged standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, pushing, and pulling.
  2. Manual dexterity.
  3. Heavy physical effort, ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. (supplies and equipment).
  4. Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.
