This position of Packaging Operator is responsible for all packaging functions. The Packaging Operator must understand the operation of the Packaging Unit entirely, focusing on utilizing the equipment to meet all quality, productivity, and packaging codes as outlined in our quality system. Additionally, the Packaging Operator will run a forklift as needed and must follow all Work Instructions as outlined.
Responsibilities- Check material running at finishing lines to capture work codes and customer formats to ensure all customer needs are met for packaging.
- Secure all necessary packaging needs ahead of packaging so packers have the proper materials to package per specification: Skids, pallets, cardboard, paper, plastic, banding, etc.
- Once material is packaged, check for accuracy and quality.
- Confirm weights are correct on material off the scale and ensure dunnage weights are correct. Ensure proper parking locations are entered in the computer.
- Coordinate the movement of material through shipping bays and communicate with affected Cranemen to ensure efficient movement of material.
- Coordinate work at the packaging line for multiple coils exiting both Slitter and Blanking Line for maximum efficiency.
- Coordinate coils down ended, ensuring all proper pack codes, quality, and efficiency are maintained. Ensure weights and dunnages are correct, entered in the computer, and material is correctly parked.
- Keep inventory of all packing needs at pack fields on an ongoing basis, including wood, paper and plastic products, banding and tools, shrink wrap guns, and propane.
- Assist as necessary in any packaging needs by redistributing packers between lines or working with packers to keep all running smoothly and efficiently.
- Direct questions that cannot be answered through the chain of command in the shipping section.
- Monitor and correct safety activities as necessary.
- Responsible for all training of on-shift utility personnel working in the packaging section. Motivate pack crews as necessary to achieve outlined results.
- Perform all other jobs as assigned.
- Experience operating a forklift for at least 1 year.
- Experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience in packing or shipping is preferred.

Work EnvironmentThis is a clean stainless steel manufacturer/distributor. The warehouse is not climate controlled, so it will be hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. All candidates should be available from 5 AM to 5 PM, although they won't always work a 12-hour shift. You might be asked to work a weekend if the supply chain picks up.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00
