Retirement Plans Consultant

Job Description:The Retirement Plans Consultant plays a key role in supporting the North American Manager of Financial Securities by assisting with the administration and compliance of pension and 401k plans. This role involves conducting annual testing, asset valuations, contribution calculations, managing audits, and preparing required filings. The Retirement Plans Consultant will collaborate with internal teams, external business partners, consultants, and vendors to ensure compliance and smooth operation of retirement plans. Additionally, they will respond to inquiries related to plan provisions, enrollments, status changes, and general questions regarding retirement plans.
Key Responsibilities:
Retirement Plan Testing and Compliance:
- Assist with nondiscrimination testing, asset valuations, contribution calculations, and other compliance-related activities for pension and 401k plans.
- Provide strategic alternatives for correcting failures in tests and present options for improving future testing results.
- Conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance with IRS/DOL regulations, plan documents, and company policies.
- Review, interpret, and maintain legal plan documents to ensure compliance with IRS/DOL regulations and internal policies.
- Ensure that all plan documents are up-to-date and compliant with current laws and regulations.
- Collaborate with internal business partners, consultants, and external vendors to ensure the timely and accurate resolution of retirement plan inquiries and issues.
- Assist in communicating regulatory information and testing requirements in a clear and understandable manner to individuals outside the retirement plan administration area.
- Stay current on the latest laws and regulations impacting retirement plans, ensuring that the company’s plans remain compliant.
- Consult with internal and external business partners on plan compliance, IRS regulations, and potential enhancements to retirement plans.
- Ensure that updated plan information is accurately communicated and available on internal and external platforms.
- Assist with special projects such as divestitures, acquisitions, and joint ventures, providing retirement plan expertise as needed.
- Provide assistance with the preparation of filings required for pension and 401k plans, ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Respond to retirement plan inquiries from leaders, colleagues, and vendors regarding plan provisions, benefit enrollments, and status changes.
- Build trust within the team by demonstrating honesty, reliability, and accountability.
Qualifications:Required Skills and Experience:
- Strong knowledge of retirement plan regulations (IRS/DOL) and compliance requirements.
- Experience with retirement plan administration, testing, and audits.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex regulatory requirements to non-experts.
- Experience working with internal and external business partners, consultants, and vendors to resolve issues.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., finance, business, or law).
- Certification or coursework in retirement plan administration or compliance (e.g., QKA, QPA).
- Experience in pension plan and 401k administration.
- Familiarity with pension and 401k filings, audits, and testing processes.
