Senior Accountant
Job Description
SENIOR ACCOUNTANT
SUMMARY
Analyzes and maintains a complete and accurate general ledger; prepares managerial and financial reports.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Establishes business units and/or table of accounts and assigns to proper accounts.
* Analyzes records of financial transactions to determine accuracy and completeness of entries.
* Prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement and other financial reports.
* Coordinates accounting matters with other departments, locations and divisions.
* Reports and advises on organization's financial status.
* Develops, implements, modifies and documents accounting systems.
* Adapts accounting and recordkeeping functions to current computerized accounting systems technology.
* Conducts special studies, develops or recommends enhancements to accounting methods and procedures.
* Utilizes computer to input, retrieve or display accounting information.
* Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable GAAP accounting principles and policies.
* Must maintain satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.
* Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations. If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
* May develop, coach and mentor subordinate staff.
* May conduct performance evaluations; recommend salary adjustments; reward employees or take disciplinary action, as necessary; address complaints and resolve issues.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
* Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Accounting from four-year college or university, plus 5 to 8 years experience, CPA preferred; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
* MBA/Master's degree a plus.
SKILLS
* Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.
* Computer skill requirements include: Intermediate MS Word, Excel, Access; basic Powerpoint.
* Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as determination of reliability and validity, variance and trend analysis techniques.
* Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
* Ability to complete assignment that are broad in nature, usually requiring originality and ingenuity, with appreciable latitude for actions and decisions.
* Possesses and applies broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures in this field of specialization.
