Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Shipping and Receiving Specialist to join our fast-paced and dynamic warehouse team. The ideal candidate will have experience in material handling, logistics, and warehouse operations, with a focus on shipping and receiving tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Seal, label, and affix postage to prepare materials for shipping using hand tools, power tools, and a postage meter.
  • Contact carrier representatives to decide and issue instructions for the shipping and delivery of materials.
  • Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, and damages and discrepancies for reporting, accounting, and record-keeping purposes.
  • Compute amounts such as space available and shipping, storage, and demurrage charges using a calculator or price list.
  • Assist in loading and unloading L&S and freight trucks.
  • Organize and maintain the inter-shop shipping area.
  • Prepare shipments so that they are organized and ready to go in a timely manner.
  • Follow all applicable work instructions.
  • Perform vehicle maintenance, including care of forklifts.
  • Receive new products and repair stock on the computer system.
  • Print new product orders on the computer system.
  • Process all incoming and outgoing UPS, FedEx, and freight carrier shipments.
  • Keep the building and surrounding grounds clean and in good condition.
  • Perform other activities as directed by the supervisor.
Essential Skills
  • Experience printing FedEx and UPS labels.
  • Experience with material handling equipment.
  • Experience in a large distribution environment.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Experience performing cycle counts.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Prefer candidates with experience in a variety of material handling equipment.

Work Environment

This role is based in a very large, fast-paced warehouse that spans over 220,000 square feet with more than 25 bay doors. The warehouse is separated by racks and includes a wire room section, maintained in a clean and organized manner. The work environment is very active, requiring standing, walking, climbing, crawling, bending, stooping, crouching, and climbing at times. The shift starts at 7am and continues until all tasks are completed.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00
