LPT Details

  • Full Time Schedules
  • 8 hour - Day Shift
  • Contract Position (flexible with shift availability is a plus)

LPT Duties

  • Psychiatric Assessment: Conduct initial assessments of inmates to identify psychiatric conditions and make recommendations for treatment plans. Continuously observe inmates for signs of mental health crises, suicidal ideation, or behavioral changes. LPTs are trained to recognize symptoms of psychiatric conditions and report them to a psychiatrist or clinical supervisor for further evaluation.
  • Crisis Intervention: Use verbal and non-verbal communication skills to de-escalate tense situations and manage inmates who may be a threat to themselves or others. This may include diffusing conflicts, calming agitated inmates, or managing withdrawal symptoms from drugs or alcohol.
  • Medication Administration/Monitoring: LPTs are responsible for administering prescribed medications to inmates with mental health disorders, including psychiatric medications, mood stabilizers, or anti-anxiety drugs. Observe for adverse reactions to medications and ensure that inmates follow their prescribed medication regimens. LPTs report any issues to nursing staff or the prescribing physician.
  • Therapeutic Support: Assist in individual or group therapy sessions conducted by licensed counselors or psychiatrists, reinforcing therapeutic goals and providing emotional support to inmates.

LPT Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited educational institution
  • Licensed as a Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) by the State in which the position is located. The license MUST be in good standing
  • 1+ year of relevant Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) experience
