Senior Attorney – First Party Insurance Defense/Bad Faith Litigation


Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Senior Attorney with 7+ years of comprehensive experience in insurance bad faith claims, and coverage disputes. The candidate should have civil jury trial experience, ideally as lead counsel. The ideal candidate is expected to be an innovative, client-focused professional who can leverage their skills, experience, and ability build strong relationships with the firm’s current book of business. Portable business is welcome, but not expected. This is an opportunity for a possible fast-track to shareholder status for a firm with a thriving practice in need of additional practice leaders.


Responsibilities:

  • Advocate for and defend insurance company clients in managing a comprehensive case load in areas of first-party insurance defense/bad faith litigation
  • Manage all stages of first-party insurance defense litigation, including drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery requests, performing legal research, conducting and defending depositions, arbitration, mediations, and trials, as necessary, and crafting strategies to resolve cases in an efficient and timely manner
  • Review insurance policies, contracts, and claim files to identify coverage issues
  • Manage discovery documents
  • Negotiate settlements on behalf of our clients wherever possible
  • Provide timely and frequent legal advice and reporting to claims representatives during the litigation or pre-litigation process
  • Communicate and negotiate with opposing counsel to accomplish optimal outcomes in handling legal issues
  • Develop discovery plans and trial strategies tailored to each case and ensure that evidence is appropriately prepared for trial
  • Attend hearings in state and federal courts. Represent the interests of our clients in court, employing strong litigation and trial skills in front of a judge or jury
  • Stay up to date with changes in insurance law, participating in professional development courses, and maintaining active membership in professional associations
  • Work cooperatively with a legal team, delegating tasks to Jr. Associates and Paralegals as appropriate and supervising progress
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
