Job Title: Special Education Teacher

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Ohio Licensure Requirements:
    • Current and valid Ohio Department of Education (ODE) Intervention Specialist License, which may include:
      • Mild/Moderate Needs
      • Moderate/Intensive Needs
      • Early Childhood Intervention Specialist
    • Alternative Resident Educator License for Intervention Specialists may also be considered (requires specific coursework and mentorship).
  • Additional Certificates:
    • Passing scores on the Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) for Special Education and/or relevant content areas.
    • Certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or willingness to obtain upon hire (preferred).
  • Experience working with students with special needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, learning disabilities, or other exceptionalities (preferred).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to the unique needs of students with disabilities.
  • Modify curriculum and instruction to accommodate students with a range of abilities and learning styles.
  • Deliver specialized instruction in small groups or one-on-one settings.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure students receive appropriate accommodations and modifications.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instruction as needed to meet goals.
  • Facilitate effective communication with families to provide updates on student performance and development.
  • Support students with behavioral and emotional challenges using positive reinforcement and evidence-based strategies.
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal special education regulations, including IDEA and Section 504.
  • Participate in professional development to remain current on best practices in special education.
