Special Education Teacher

Looking for x2 FT SPEDs
Full 24/25 SY
37.5 hours per week
1. Elementary Caseload
2. Secondary Caseload

Job Tasks:
1. Curriculum Modification and Instruction
Adapt and Modify Curriculum: Adjust general education lessons and curriculum to meet the specific needs of students with disabilities, ensuring that lessons align with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Deliver Instruction: Teach core academic subjects such as reading, math, science, and social studies, but with specialized methods suited for students with various learning needs and disabilities.
Develop Academic Goals: Collaborate with other teachers to establish learning objectives aligned with both state standards and students individualized needs.
2. IEP Development and Implementation
Write and Manage IEPs: Create and maintain Individualized Education Programs, outlining the specific educational services, goals, accommodations, and modifications required for each student.
Facilitate IEP Meetings: Collaborate with parents, administrators, therapists, and other professionals to discuss progress and update the IEP as needed.
Monitor Progress Toward IEP Goals: Assess and document students progress, ensuring they are meeting their academic, behavioral, and social objectives.
3. Classroom and Behavior Management
Manage Classroom Environment: Create a structured, inclusive classroom environment tailored to the unique needs of students with disabilities.
Implement Classroom-Based Behavior Strategies: Use positive reinforcement, classroom rules, and visual schedules to manage behavior, but without the deep-level behavior analysis typical of a BCBA.
Address Emotional and Social Skills Development: Teach and reinforce social skills, conflict resolution, and coping strategies for emotional regulation within a classroom setting.
4. Differentiated Instruction
Personalized Learning Approaches: Utilize differentiated teaching strategies such as small group instruction, hands-on learning, and visual aids to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
Support Diverse Learning Needs: Provide specialized instruction for students with mild to severe disabilities, including those with learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism, ADHD, and physical or sensory impairments.
5. Collaboration with General Education Teachers
Co-Teach and Support General Education Classrooms: Work alongside general education teachers to provide inclusive instruction or pull-out sessions to ensure that students receive specialized support in general education settings.
Adapt Classroom Assessments: Modify tests, assignments, and grading systems to meet the needs of students with IEPs, ensuring they are fairly assessed based on their individual capabilities.
6. Support and Train Paraprofessionals
Train and Manage Paraprofessionals: Provide guidance and support to paraprofessionals or teaching assistants who help in the classroom with individual students or small groups.
Assign Tasks and Monitor Paraprofessional Performance: Ensure they are implementing accommodations, providing the necessary support, and helping with both academic and behavioral goals.
7. Documentation and Legal Compliance
Maintain Educational Records: Document student progress, behaviors, and interventions in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations.
Ensure Legal Compliance: Ensure that educational services comply with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and other applicable laws.
8. Life Skills and Vocational Training
Teach Life Skills: Provide instruction in basic life skills such as self-care, communication, and daily living tasks (cooking, cleaning, budgeting) to prepare students for independent living.
Prepare Students for Post-School Transitions: Assist older students in developing vocational and job skills, coordinating with community services for job placements or post-secondary education.
9. Family and Community Engagement
Regular Communication with Families: Maintain frequent contact with families to update them on student progress and involve them in decision-making processes related to their child's education.
Community Resource Coordination: Help connect families with external services, such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, and community organizations.
