The Outpatient Pharmacist reviews, maintains, and screens patient medication records in order to provide optimal patient outcomes during the dispensing of outpatient prescription medications. The Outpatient Pharmacist will manage and engage the outpatient pharmacy team to assist them in achieving optimal pharmaceutical care in this setting. At a minimum, must perform established Washington Health System Core Staff Pharmacist Skills & Responsibilities.

1. Fill prescriptions in accordance with State and Federal regulations, utilizing available technology, resources, and equipment.

2. Reviews, maintains, and screens patient medication records and profiles for drug allergies, significant drug interactions, and therapeutic duplication while entering orders and/or verifying prescription medications.

3. Communicate and clarify prescription orders with providers that are unclear, illegible, or incomplete.

4. Provide effective patient and caregiver counseling as required by regulation.

5. Provides drug information and/or educational programs to physicians, allied healthcare practitioners, and students as necessary.

6. Manages daily operational duties and supervises all work undertaken by pharmacy technicians, students, and ancillary personnel.

7. Oversees the training and instruction of new staff in outpatient pharmacy policy, procedures, workflow, and technology used to provide patient care.

8. Effectively manages outpatient pharmacy inventory to serve the needs of patients; removes and sequesters expired inventory per State and Federal regulations.

9. Reports medication errors per hospital policy; proactively identifies opportunities to improve outpatient pharmacy workflow and improve patient safety.

10. Maintains required licensure and level of technical and professional knowledge to competently perform at the retail pharmacist level as demonstrated by performance appraisal.

11. Work with Pharmacy Director to optimize fiscal outcomes of the retail pharmacy, negotiate PBM contracts and networks, and other business-related initiatives that align with hospital interests.

12. Work with Pharmacy Director to enhance infusion center outcomes, including evaluation of appropriate specialty medication improvements and 340b prescription eligibility considerations, where applicable.

13. Performs all other duties as assigned for which employee is trained or qualified to perform.

Shift: Rotating 8a-4p or 9a-5p, with some weekends.
