Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for providing safe and dependable group transportation in accordance with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements and the philosophy of The Salvation Army to enhance the programs and ministries of the Corps.

• Safely transport all bell ringers to and from designated bell ringing sites in a timely manner.
• Drop off and collect kettles from bell ringing sites.
• Ensure that bell ringers fill in their timecards as required.
• Keep extra supplies of bells, aprons, timecards, and other bell ringer supplies in the vehicle.
• Refill the gas tank as needed or communicate any needed repairs to the Corps officer(s).
• Check on bell ringers to ensure they are working in the prescribed manner.
• Report any concerns or complaints about bell ringers or from the stores.
• Keep track of mileage.
• Complete daily trip logs with monthly submission to Corps Assistant.
• Complete inspection checklist when driving DOT regulated vehicles.
• Provide routine maintenance, including:
  • As needed: gasoline, trash disposal, and clutter removal.
  • Weekly: washing and vacuuming.
  • Quarterly: oil changes, lube, tire rotation, safety inspection, and deep cleaning.
• Work with Corps Assistant to assist in providing other maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Ensure vehicle safety by closing all windows and locking all doors when not in use.
• Responsible for assigned vehicle keys.
• Cooperate with other professional members in assessing and assisting to solve adult and children’s concerns and challenges in emergency situations.
• Always maintain a positive and professional image.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Possession of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have a pleasant personality and the ability to communicate well with the public.
• Must present an appropriate appearance (i.e., clothing should be neat, clean, and pressed, not loose-fitting or sloppy, and in good condition; shoes must be clean and in good condition). Due to cold weather, you will want to dress warmly. The red windbreaker must always be worn along with an identification badge.
• Must possess a valid Indiana Driver’s License.
• Must be 21 years or older.
• The employee must be able to get in and out of the van without assistance.
