Job Description
A large manufacturer of subsea oil field parts is hiring for a CNC machinist. The role involves machining very large parts, with an OD range from 6 inches to 6 feet and lengths from 1 foot to 40 feet, weighing thousands of pounds. The parts are designed for subsea pipelines, valve bodies, flange-like pieces, and large drill bits, requiring tight tolerances. The position primarily involves operating a long bed lathe, but also includes work on VTL and HBM machines. The machinist will work with Fanuc controls and perform G code edits. This is a job shop environment, so the candidate must be confident in running at program speeds and feeds without being overly cautious.
Hard Skills- 5+ years CNC machining large parts
- Job shop experience (no mass production)
- Lathe
- VTL & HBM
- Fanuc controls and G code
- Safety aware
- Team player
- Attention to detail
- Problem-solving
- Adaptability
This is a Contract-to-Hire position with a duration of 6 Month(s).
Work SiteThis is a fully on-site position in Houston, Texas.
Work EnvironmentThe larger shop is equipped with AC, but staying organized can be challenging due to the size of the parts. The culture is very safety-oriented because of the large parts and the seriousness of the procedures. The team is collaborative, with everyone helping each other. The night shift consists of about 2 CNC machinists, while the day shift has about 12. There are also 8 welders who perform arc/robotic welding, and 2 QC personnel. Machinists are responsible for moving their own parts. The position requires wearing steel toes, safety glasses, and a work shirt. The night shift runs from 6:00pm to 6:00am, Monday through Friday, with Saturday shifts of 8-10 hours. Sunday work is unlikely but possible in certain circumstances. This role includes a $1.50 night differential.
