As an OB Scrub Tech, you are responsible for assisting the labor team with deliveries and newborn care, including feedback, hygiene, and vital signs. You will provide direct/indirect patient care for infants and maternity patients under the supervision of an RN and facilitate communication of patient needs to licensed nursing personnel. In addition, you will coordinate paper flow and perform clerical duties for labor and delivery, postpartum, and newborn patients. The MBU Obstetric & Scrub Technician serves as an adjunct to nursing care for a caseload of patients under the direction of and in collaboration with the Registered Nurse.

This position is also responsible for performing the functions of an Operating Room Scrub Technician in collaboration with the Mother-Baby Unit Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse. Responsible for adhering to AWHONN Standards of Practice, for managing supplies and equipment with the direction of Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse, and for promoting teamwork with physicians and personnel of other departments.

This is a part-time position, 24 hrs/wk, Nights 7:00pm - 7:30am, variable days of the week.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Demonstrates knowledge of sterile/aseptic technique and recognizes and corrects any breaks in this technique.
  2. Demonstrates knowledge of location, care, and use of all equipment/supplies pertaining to C-section Suite Operating Room.
  3. Maintains sterile field at all times.
  4. Identifies problems and/or need for improvement and communicates this information to the Charge Registered Nurse or Department Director.
  5. Assists with orientation of new employees as directed.
  6. Initiates CPR as necessary.
  7. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  8. Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to: security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
  9. Ensures self-compliance with organization policies and procedures, as well as labor agreements.
  10. Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the organization’s values.
  11. Conducts self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization.
  12. Ensures that additional accountabilities, as may be required, by management be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
  3. Current Washington State Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certification.
  4. One-year general surgical experience preferred if not certified and/or a graduate of approved program.
  5. Washington Stated registered Scrub Technician.
  6. Current CPR certification – Healthcare Provider (HCP) level.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Occasional or prolonged standing, sitting, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, pushing, and pulling.
  2. Manual dexterity, ability to lift/carry up to 10 pounds (supplies and equipment). Manual dexterity of hands and feet to ambulate 8 to 12 hours per shift.
  3. Physical strength to perform CPR (bed/floor), lift and push/pull 60 to 300 pounds (with assistance) as often as 20 times per 8 to 12 hours and perform constant walking, twisting, turning, and stretching maneuvers in patient care and use of equipment.
  4. Good reading eyesight. Is able to see clearly 20 feet or more, to judge distance and space relationships, and to see peripherally.
  5. Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.
