About the Role

Canon USA in Melville, NY is currently seeking a Data Scientist, a developing professional, working towards full proficiency. This position works across the company with all Canon business units and departments. In this role a candidate will gather data from a variety of internal and external sources, clean and amalgamate the data, and use programming, math, statistical and analytical skills to interpret data. The role includes working with sales, customer, channel and product data to develop business insights and predictive results to influence executive decisions.

This role helps business units and divisions understand customers and market trends, forecasting, and works to improve internal processes through a wide variety of methods and tools. This is a role that requires a diverse set of skills, creative thinking and analytical work, coding, a desire to learn and grow personal skill sets.

This position is full time and offers a hybrid work schedule requiring you to be in the office Monday and Wednesday and an option to work from home the remainder of the week (unless a specific business need arises requiring in office attendance on other days). Note that work schedules and office reporting requirements may change from time to time based on business needs.

Effective January 1, 2025, we will increase our required, scheduled in-office days for hybrid employees to three days a week.



Your Impact

  • Analyzes complex business problems using data from internal and external sources, scientific methods, and advanced mathematical and statistical concepts and theories to provide insight to decision-makers
  • Develops and codes software programs, algorithms and automated processes to cleanse, integrate and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources
  • Create algorithms and data models to forecast outcomes across business channels
  • Constructs forecasts, recommendations and strategic/tactical plans based on business data and market knowledge
  • Identifies and interprets trends and generates new business ideas
  • Able to acquire, integrate and extract new data sources when not available
  • May analyze and assess issues affecting product positioning and construct strategic and tactical plans to address them
  • Expected to possess or develop specialized knowledge in various areas of Canon business and markets
  • Will receive general instruction from manager on expected work outcomes but is responsible for autonomy and good judgment in day-to-day matters


About You: The Skills & Expertise You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience required, plus 3 to 5 years of related experience. Bachelor's degree required in Finance, Mathematics, along with statistical and strong analytical skills and thorough knowledge of MS Office
  • Experience with data tool such as Python, SAS or SQL preferred
  • Statistical and or quantitative background preferred
  • Functional knowledge of analytical tools and report creation technologies preferred

The company will not pursue or support visa sponsorship for this position.

In accordance with applicable law, we are providing the anticipated base salary range for this role: $69,300 - $103,770 annually
