Description:

The mission of The Arc Carroll County is to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their individual pursuit of a fulfilling life. Our Community Living Department serves individuals who reside in our homes 24/7. The Residential Advisor (RA) works directly with the residents to insure their well-being and development. The RA provides instruction and guidance to residents in the acquisition of daily living skills and implements the daily management and operation of the home in compliance with state regulations and The Arc policies.


The RA Position is a 40-hour work week with some evenings and weekend shifts required.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of the Residential Advisor:

  • Complete monthly scheduling and coordinate to fill open positions as needed.
  • Provide support, supervision and oversight to direct care staff, ensuring they complete their daily tasks.
  • Managing staff members who work in the home, including training, scheduling shifts, and evaluating performance. Ensure onboarding of staff.
  • Participate in the development and revision of the Person-Centered Plan (PCP); participate in the PCP process; conduct appropriate activities designed to meet the habilitative services' objectives as prescribed in the PCP.
  • Assist residents in acquiring appropriate independence and social living skills.
  • Assisting residents with life skills and basic needs such as bathing and grooming and coordinating with other staff members to ensure that resident needs are met.
  • Ensure the overall nutritional needs of the residents are met by planning balanced and nutritional meals, shopping for groceries, adhering to budget, preparing and serving meals and cleaning up afterwards.
  • Record keeping duties: make entries in daily log; review and approve time sheets; maintain residential program policies; complete incident reports as necessary; complete assigned documentation of training assurances.
  • Document progress towards person-centered goals in iCare Manager.?
  • Ensure cleanliness of residence, encouraging maximum client participation and involvement in normal household chores. Ensure maintenance of client clothing, encouraging maximum client participation and involvement in laundering, ironing, mending, etc.
  • Transportation of residents to scheduled agency activities or individually scheduled activities/appointments.
  • Provide for the safety of residents.
  • Other duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION:

  • Pay Range: $19.00 to $22.00 per hour in compliance with Maryland's Equal Pay for Equal Work law and based on experience and qualifications.
  • Overtime pay available.

Requirements:

Residential Advisor QUALIFICATIONS:

  • AA degree, or 60 credit hours with emphasis in human services related subjects, or 15 credit hours with emphasis in human services related subject and one year of experience in the treatment and care of people with developmental disabilities. High School Diploma or GED and three years of experience will substitute.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Completion of CPR, First Aid and other Developmental Disabilities Administration and Arc required training.
  • Valid driver's license with no more than 2 current points on record.
  • Clean drug screen and criminal record (The Arc provides programs, services, and direct care to vulnerable adults).
  • The ability to successfully pass a drug screening.

Residential Advisor PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift/manipulate at least 50 pounds frequently with ability to lift, carry and/or exert force in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Ability to withstand prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing required: Including lifting a wheelchair and repositioning an individual.
  • Ability to transfer individual from a chair to vehicle, bed to chair. Ability to position individual on a sling or Hoyer lift. Ability to physically secure individual in a wheelchair to the van with tie-downs.
