Job Description

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will triage, interpret, and input orders into a computerized medication order system while maintaining accuracy and productivity standards. You will audit input versus documentation and make necessary corrections. This role involves performing basic drug calculations, resolving issues of denials identified through adjudication, and following up on claims in Point of Sale (POS). You will maintain current knowledge of Medicaid claim regulations and processes, produce reports, and keep management informed of unpaid claims and claims pending follow-up. Providing excellent customer service to both external and internal customers in line with company values is essential. Additionally, you may assist with drug preparation and dispensing under the supervision of a pharmacist, and perform other tasks as assigned, which can include assisting in any area of the pharmacy as directed by management.

Responsibilities
  • Triage, interpret, and input orders into a computerized medication order system while meeting accuracy and productivity standards.

  • Perform basic drug calculations, such as converting milligrams.
  • Resolve issues of denials identified through adjudication and follow up on claims in Point of Sale (POS).
  • Maintain current knowledge of Medicaid claim regulations and processes.
  • Produce reports and keep management informed of unpaid claims and claims pending follow-up.
  • Provide excellent customer service to both external and internal customers in accordance with company values.
  • Assist with drug preparation and dispensing under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned, which can include assisting in any area of the pharmacy as directed by management.
Essential Skills
  • 6+ months of experience as a pharmacy technician in a closed-door or long-term care environment.
  • Understanding of medical terminology and the ability to identify medications.
  • Pharmacy technician certificate and license.
  • Experience with data entry and filling prescriptions.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB or CPhT) is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented, goal-oriented, and team player.
  • Strong customer service and oral communication skills.
  • Flexibility for overtime and changing shifts as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Basic understanding of drugs, medication terminology, and the metric system.
  • Ability to operate a computer.
  • Experience with compounding and pharmacy support.
Work Environment

This is a closed-door, non-retail pharmacy environment focused on fulfilling the pharmaceutical needs of long-term care and senior living clients. The work environment is more akin to a production/fulfillment/warehouse setting. Shifts vary, and flexibility for overtime and changing shifts is required. The team includes Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacists, and Order Entry Technicians working various shifts, with rotating weekends.
