Founded in 2015, the organization is a dynamic entity focused on increasing access to high-quality early childhood education. The organization is committed to improving the quality of childcare services by providing effective administrative support, allowing center leaders and staff to focus on their primary mission: serving children, families, and educators.

As a nonprofit entity, the organization partners with childcare centers that cater to low-income families, assisting them in navigating the complexities of paperwork and compliance despite limited resources. The organization prides itself on its motto: "Making the impossible achievable." It works closely with each partner center to identify challenges and deliver tailored administrative services, including financial management, enrollment assistance, childcare subsidy oversight, reporting, and human resource compliance.

The Opportunity

As the Chief Executive Officer, you will report directly to the Board of Directors and play a pivotal role in defining the vision and advancing the mission of the organization. Your duties will include overseeing and steering all operational aspects, such as financial oversight, program compliance, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership.

In collaboration with the Board of Directors, you will set and achieve clear objectives for the organization, providing guidance and leadership to a small team and partner agencies. You will deliver direct services to clients and passionately advocate for the organization's vision, goals, and values. The organization seeks a leader with a profound commitment to early childhood education and a proven track record in managing financial and programmatic operations within a nonprofit framework.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Oversight and Operations (40%)
  • Provide direct support to partner centers in operational finance, including managing financial statements, bookkeeping, accounts receivable/payable, and payroll.
  • Advise partners on profit and loss management through the design of effective financial systems and services.
  • Develop and implement strategies to secure diverse and sustainable revenue streams, including enhancing the organization's fee-for-service model and engaging in fundraising initiatives.
  • Create and communicate organization-wide Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency, efficiency, and compliance across all financial and operational processes.
Program Management and Compliance (20%)
  • Oversee the development, implementation, quality assurance, and promotion of the organization's administrative services, ensuring programs meet the needs of partner centers and contribute to their operational success.
  • Anticipate and implement changes to meet public funding requirements for low-income families on behalf of partner centers.
  • Manage regulatory audits for partner centers, establishing systems for proactive compliance and maintaining transparency and accuracy in all records.
  • Establish and document proactive systems for ongoing compliance and continuously monitor and evaluate program performance to drive improvements.
Stakeholder Engagement (20%)
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with partner centers, families, donors, and key stakeholders within the childcare ecosystem.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and partner to centers and families, ensuring services align with their needs and expectations.
  • Actively engage with the broader community to promote the organization's mission and values, building support and awareness.
Team Leadership and Development (10%)
  • Lead and inspire a diverse team, fostering an engaging and supportive work environment that motivates staff to excel in their roles.
  • Support staff development through training, mentorship, and opportunities for professional growth.
Board Relations (10%)
  • Engage the Board in fundraising efforts and key organizational initiatives, ensuring Directors are well-informed and able to contribute effectively.
  • Build and nurture relationships with the Board, leveraging Directors' expertise in governance, finance, fundraising, and policy to guide the organization's strategic direction.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Expertise
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in nonprofit accounting or small business finance.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) highly preferred.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role, preferably in early childhood education or a related nonprofit sector.
  • Strong financial acumen and a commitment to operational excellence.
  • Experience in planning, budgeting, and fiscal management, including managing public contracts and vouchers.
  • Strong understanding of the implementation and maintenance of child care subsidies eligibility or similar government programs.
  • Experience navigating complex government regulatory environments, ensuring compliance with detailed policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of California subsidized early education funding streams preferred.
  • Dedication to expanding access to quality early learning for low-income children and families.
  • Success in building and maintaining strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, ensuring a high degree of cultural sensitivity.
  • Experience in staff leadership and development, fostering a supportive and inclusive organizational culture.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors, including governance, compliance, and fundraising.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in an in-person office setting.
Physical Requirements

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee frequently sits and occasionally stands, walks, talks/listens, stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls, and reaches with hands and arms. The employee occasionally lifts to 20 lbs. Close and distance vision and manual dexterity to use a telephone and computer are required.
