Position Overview

The Assistant Building Maintenance Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the administrative, financial, personnel, and technical functions of the maintenance program within a designated department, collaborating closely with the Building Maintenance Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Policy Enforcement: Enforce customer service, human resources, and budgetary policies in alignment with University of Utah standards.
  • Communication: Provide updates on program activities to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Community Engagement: Build and maintain collaborative relationships within the community and the institution.
  • Client Satisfaction: Proactively address and resolve complaints and suggestions to enhance satisfaction.
  • Financial Oversight: Develop and manage operating budgets, with regular reporting on financial performance.
  • Personnel Management: Supervise full-time, part-time, and student workers, ensuring maintenance operations are conducted within budgetary limits.
  • Staff Development: Foster employee growth through training initiatives and performance evaluations.
  • Equipment Oversight: Acquire necessary tools and manage work schedules using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Resource Management: Optimize staff deployment based on available resources.
  • Facility Evaluation: Conduct regular assessments of facility performance.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Engage in emergency response initiatives.
  • Sustainability Efforts: Promote energy conservation and waste reduction strategies.
  • Project Management: Represent and support departmental facility projects in collaboration with district management.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience (one year of education may substitute for two years of related work experience) along with 4 to 6 years of progressively responsible management experience is required. A solid understanding of the department's specialization is necessary for effective analysis, planning, and recommendations.

Demonstrated leadership capabilities in directing personnel and processes to ensure smooth departmental operations are essential. Completion of supervisory training within the first year of employment may be required. A Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
