The Quality Assurance and Sanitation Lead will collaborate closely with the Plant Manager and align with the Senior Director of Quality & Regulatory Compliance at the corporate level. This role is pivotal in overseeing all dimensions of quality assurance and food safety across diverse products with intricate process flows, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, customer satisfaction, sanitation protocols, and product quality benchmarks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the quality assurance budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with planned objectives.
- Manage all aspects related to food safety and quality, providing training to the team on SQF, GMPs, SOPs, and safe operational practices to uphold established standards.
- Develop and sustain proactive quality, safety, and sanitation protocols, processes, and documentation to comply with SQF, HACCP, OSHA, FDA, EPA, and other regulatory bodies.
- Identify and resolve issues through data analysis, investigation, and implementation of corrective and preventive measures.
- Evaluate process and quality data to assess and enhance product quality and operational performance.
- Instruct production teams on standards and processes, fostering a culture of quality among all employees.
- Coordinate root cause analysis for identified risks or failures, manage complaints, and oversee CAPA implementation.
- Collaborate with production managers to optimize product quality and reliability while minimizing costs.
- Monitor, analyze, and lead initiatives addressing internal quality and customer complaint matters.
- Document and approve site-specific occurrences such as protocols, deviations, waivers, or material releases as necessary.
- Assess product specifications and conduct testing to ensure compliance with customer and internal standards.
- Facilitate internal, customer, supplier, subcontractor, and regulatory audits.
- Manage changes to Standard Operating Procedures effectively.
- Ensure sanitary practices and safety standards are upheld during the cleaning and sanitizing of machinery, equipment, and utensils.
- Adhere to safety, sanitation, and GMP regulations.
- Complete sanitation documentation on a daily basis.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant Science field (e.g., Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology) from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of three years of experience in Quality Control or Quality Assurance within a GMP manufacturing environment, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
- Proven experience supervising Quality Assurance or Sanitation teams, along with expertise in internal and external auditing, change control processes, and GMP compliance.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
- Strong time management, attention to detail, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficient in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Solid understanding of GMPs and SPC, with the capability to train personnel at all levels within a plant setting.
Work Environment:
- This position necessitates the use of specific safety precautions and equipment, including working near operating machinery and handling hazardous materials.
- Essential functions may require physical exertion, including prolonged standing, navigating slippery surfaces, and lifting moderately heavy items.
- Exposure to allergens such as soy, dairy, and wheat may occur.
- Utilization of power tools, hand tools, hot water, and compressed air equipment is required.
