Job Summary:

The Forensic Nurse Examiner will provide high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals who have experienced trauma. This role requires a strong commitment to providing compassionate and non-judgmental care, while also maintaining a focus on collecting and preserving evidence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation, including assessment and history of events
  • Triage patients to determine if emergency medical treatment is needed before the medical forensic exam
  • Assist patients in coordinating referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up as needed
  • Perform a complete physical examination, including a head-to-toe assessment for trauma, detailed genital examination as appropriate, forensic specimen collection, and documentation
  • Document detailed injuries accurately with support of photographic evidence, when possible
  • Maintain chain of custody for each assault exam and adhere to evidence protocols
  • Administer appropriate prophylactic medications per protocol
  • Provide testimony as a fact witness to any cases performed and coordinate with attorneys during the judicial process
  • Participate in community awareness and outreach projects as needed and directed by the Forensic Nurse Program Coordinator

Requirements:

  • Current Montana licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • American Heart Association BLS certification
  • Competence in and a willingness and ability to practice modified primary nursing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in forensic nursing or a related field
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
